EventsSwiper helps you find events near you: you swipe through what's on, save what you like, and add events of your own. To do that, we need some information about you. This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and the choices you have.

EventsSwiper is run by Acloudidea (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa, which is responsible for your personal information. This policy covers the EventsSwiper app for Android and iOS and the website at eventsswiper.com.

At a glance

  • We don't sell your information and we don't show you third-party adverts.
  • Location is optional. If you allow it, we use your approximate location to show events nearby. You can pick a city instead.
  • Other users don't see your profile. Only events you choose to publish are public.
  • You're in control: you can turn off location and notifications, and ask us to show, correct or delete your information at any time.
  • Questions? Email [email protected].

What information do we collect?

In short What you give us when you use EventsSwiper, and some information from your device.

Information you give us

  • Your account: your email address and display name, or your Google account's name, email and photo if you sign in with Google. You can also browse as a guest without giving us these.
  • Your preferences: the city you pick, the distance you search within, your favourite categories and the moods you choose, so we can rank events for you.
  • Events you save: the events you like or save, kept with your account so they follow you across devices.
  • Events you add: the details you enter, such as title, date, venue, price, description and photos.
  • Poster photos: photos of event posters you scan to fill in an event for you.
  • Subscriptions: if you subscribe, which plan you have and whether it's active. Your card details stay with Google Play or the App Store; we never see them.

Information from your device

  • Location: only if you allow it, and only while you use the app. We use your approximate location to find events near you. We don't track your location in the background.
  • Swipes: events you skip are remembered on your phone for 7 days so you don't see them again straight away.
  • Notification token: if you allow notifications, a code that lets us send them to your phone, and your notification settings.
  • Device and error reports: your type of phone, app version, and technical details when something goes wrong, so we can fix it.

How do we use your information?

In short To show you events you'll like, keep EventsSwiper safe, and make it better.

  • To run your account: to sign you in and keep your account secure.
  • To show what's relevant: events near you or in the city you pick, ranked by your preferences.
  • To publish your events: to check events you add and show them to other users.
  • To read posters for you: to turn a poster photo into event details you can check and edit.
  • To keep you updated: notifications about events, if you allow them.
  • To manage subscriptions: to unlock paid features while your plan is active.
  • To keep EventsSwiper safe: to spot fraud, spam and misuse, and enforce our Terms.
  • To fix and improve EventsSwiper: using error reports and usage figures that don't identify you.

We only use your information where the law allows: to provide the service you signed up for, with your consent (for location and notifications), where we have a legitimate reason to run a safe and useful service, or where the law requires it.

Who can see your information?

In short Events you publish are public. Your account, preferences and saved events are private.

  • Events you add can be seen by everyone using EventsSwiper once they're published, including any photos and the organiser name you give.
  • Your email, location, preferences and saved events are never shown to other users.

How does the poster scanner use AI?

In short AI services read the poster so you don't have to type it out. You check the result before anything is published.

When you scan a poster, the photo is sent to our servers and then to Groq and Google's Gemini service, which read the text and suggest the event details. We use the result only to fill in your event. The photo is kept only if you go on to publish the event, as the event's picture. Don't scan anything you wouldn't want processed this way.

Who do we share information with?

In short Only with the companies that help us run EventsSwiper, and with authorities when the law requires it. We never sell it.

  • Companies that run parts of EventsSwiper for us, under contracts that require them to protect your information: Google (Firebase sign-in, database, file storage, server functions and the Gemini AI), Groq (poster reading), Sentry (error reports), RevenueCat (subscription status), Expo (delivering notifications) and Cloudflare (website and email).
  • Google Play and the App Store, which handle payments when you subscribe.
  • Event websites: if you tap a ticket or event link, you leave EventsSwiper and that site's own privacy policy applies.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it, or when it's needed to protect someone's safety, rights or property.
  • A new owner, if EventsSwiper is sold or reorganised. This policy would still apply to your information.

Where is your information stored?

In short Mostly in the European Union, some in the United States, always with protections in place.

Our main database is in the European Union. Photos are stored in the United States, and our other providers may process information in other countries. When information moves across borders, we use providers that protect it to recognised standards and take the steps the law requires.

How long do we keep it?

In short While your account is open. After that we delete it, except what the law requires us to keep.

  • Your account and saved events: for as long as your account is open.
  • After you delete your account: we delete or anonymise your information within 30 days, except as below.
  • Events you published: removed with your account, unless you ask us to leave them up.
  • Records the law requires, such as payment and tax records: for as long as the law says, usually up to 7 years.
  • Error reports: usually no more than 90 days.

How do we protect it?

In short Encryption, strict access rules and regular security checks.

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), encryption of stored data, database rules that let each user reach only their own information, secure sign-in, and regular security reviews. No system is perfect, so if a security incident affects your information, we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

Your choices and rights

In short You decide what EventsSwiper can access, and you can ask us for your information, or to delete it, at any time.

Choices you can make yourself

  • Location: turn it off in your phone's settings and pick a city instead.
  • Notifications: turn them off in the app's settings or your phone's settings.
  • Preferences: change your city, distance, favourites and moods in your profile at any time.
  • Your events: edit the events you added at any time.

Rights you have

You can ask us to:

  • show you the information we hold about you;
  • correct anything that's wrong;
  • delete your information;
  • stop or limit how we use it;
  • give you a copy in a common format.

You can also withdraw your consent at any time. Email [email protected] from the email address on your account. We'll reply within 30 days, and we may first check that the request really comes from you.

In South Africa we follow the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), and you can complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za). If you're in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you the same rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. Elsewhere, we follow the data protection law that applies to you.

Deleting your account

In short Email us and we'll delete your account and its data within 30 days.

To delete your EventsSwiper account, email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my account", from the email address you signed up with. We'll confirm, then delete your account, profile, preferences and saved events within 30 days, as described in How long do we keep it?

Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription. Cancel it first in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions) or in your App Store settings.

Children

EventsSwiper is for people aged 13 and over, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian's permission to use it. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, tell us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as EventsSwiper changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
